Pacific Fine Arts Festival The Village sidewalks come alive with fine art and crafts from this juried Festival. Stroll along Mountain Blvd., La Salle Ave. and Antioch Court to see some of the finest art for your home or for special gift
More than 90 professional artists from across the western US arrive in one of the East Bay's most scenic locations. Presented by the Montclair Village Association, this free festival is one of the highlights of the year in the Village. The Festival features unique and one-of-a-kind art including paintings, sculptures, exquisite jewelry, breathtaking photography and much more. Among the artists presenting at this year’s show is Oakland resident Ted Kugelman who creates one-of-a-kind clocks, fountains and sculptures crafted from natural stone. “I am a stone mason and stone artist,” says Ted. “I like to blend the simple, the whimsical, and the profound in my work.” The paintings of Oakland resident Karen LeGault are set apart by a deceptive simplicity and a refined traditional Asian technique and aesthetic. Deeply rooted in Western realism and Taoist philosophy, Karen’s lush, distilled compositions express beauty, fragrance, rhythm and form through a magical palette where spirit is reflected through matter. “Having studied, practiced and taught Tai Chi Chuan and other spiritual disciplines from 1981 on, I have a special interest in combining Eastern and Western concepts and techniques,” said Karen.
Other artists participating in the Festival include Robin Senour of Berkeley with her whimsical artwork pieces that take the form of wonderful pins, earrings and eye-catching wall hangings; clay artist Mark Untener of Oakland showing his elegant collection of functional and decorative ceramics; and Terry Steinke of San Francisco featuring his original etchings of landscapes, architecture and nature. Pacific Fine Arts & Crafts Fest This fall celebration features a wide array of garments, sculptures, photography, watercolor and oil paintings, jewelry, ceramics and more. Adding to the charm of the event, patrons will have the opportunity to meet these talented artists and speak with them about their creations. Crystal Lockwood of Vallejo creates sculptures from three different mediums: wood, bronze, and stone. Crystal hand selects a variety of woods for their organic form and inherent energy, with varieties including Maple Burl, Koa, and Redwood. The stone sculptures are translucent orange and pink alabasters from Utah, as well as White Italian alabasters. “Due to the uniqueness of each piece of wood or stone, the sculptures become one-of-a-kind, never to be repeated originals,” says Crystal. “I feel that there is a story within each piece, an ancient tale of evolution, life, and death. My vision is simply to reveal it, to share that story with others.” Oakland textile artist Kristina Basgen produces functional art that aims to promote the local foods movement. Her designs are born from original photography and digital drawings, then hand silk-screened onto functional fabrics like tea towels. Kristina’s inspiration comes from time spent working farmers’ markets in the Bay Area, while her clever, gift-ready packaging is likely to charm the pants off any foodie. All of Kristina's sustainable goodies are printed with water-based inks onto 100% cotton fabrics. Other artists participating in the Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest include Howard Weamer of Lafayette, California with his collection of landscape photography; Barbara Ramos of San Francisco featuring her jewelry made of hand painted fabric; and Geri Comstock from San Jose showing her glass jewelry. The Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest is sponsored by the Montclair Village Association with support by Bay Area News Group and InsideBayArea.com.
