More than 90 professional artists from across the western US arrive in one of the East Bay's most scenic locations. Presented by the Montclair Village Association, this free festival is one of the highlights of the year in the Village.

The Festival features unique and one-of-a-kind art including paintings, sculptures, exquisite jewelry, breathtaking photography and much more. Among the artists presenting at this year’s show is Oakland resident Ted Kugelman who creates one-of-a-kind clocks, fountains and sculptures crafted from natural stone. “I am a stone mason and stone artist,” says Ted. “I like to blend the simple, the whimsical, and the profound in my work.”

The paintings of Oakland resident Karen LeGault are set apart by a deceptive simplicity and a refined traditional Asian technique and aesthetic. Deeply rooted in Western realism and Taoist philosophy, Karen’s lush, distilled compositions express beauty, fragrance, rhythm and form through a magical palette where spirit is reflected through matter. “Having studied, practiced and taught Tai Chi Chuan and other spiritual disciplines from 1981 on, I have a special interest in combining Eastern and Western concepts and techniques,” said Karen.

2008_Festival2Christopher Roscoe from Castro Valley started his career of blowing glass in 1987 at Southern Connecticut State University. His interest in historical glass led him to the techniques of the German glass marble makers of the 19th and early 20th century and to creating a contemporary twist on marbles of his own. In addition to marbles Christopher creates colorful art glass vases, paper weights, bowls, ornaments and sculptures. His art glass is in collections both national and worldwide.

Other artists participating in the Festival include Robin Senour of Berkeley with her whimsical artwork pieces that take the form of wonderful pins, earrings and eye-catching wall hangings; clay artist Mark Untener of Oakland showing his elegant collection of functional and decorative ceramics; and Terry Steinke of San Francisco featuring his original etchings of landscapes, architecture and nature.

This fall celebration features a wide array of garments, sculptures, photography, watercolor and oil paintings, jewelry, ceramics and more. Adding to the charm of the event, patrons will have the opportunity to meet these talented artists and speak with them about their creations.

Among the artists participating in this year’s event is Pamela Howett of Walnut Creek who uses vibrant color in her oil and acrylic paintings to unleash the key strengths in her work. As a true “colorist” with a free style, Pamela's paintings capture the viewer's eye with crisp color and abstract forms. Working with a variety of subjects from seascapes to figures, Pamela finds that mastering light and color is seeing color relationships.

Warm up this fall and winter with a sumptuous shawl, wrap or scarf handmade by Moraga resident Anne Brooks, who uses chenille, silk, wool and mohair in a variety of colors to make her cozy creations. Anne threads her loom by hand and her wares have been shown in museums and galleries all over the country, lending her work as truly one-of-a-kind wearable art.

For over 14 years, Liz Patton of El Sobrante has enjoyed making whimsical and unique handmade jewelry. Her creations range from silver and 14K gold wire cat and dog ornamented necklaces to flirty and fun martini decorated earrings that will compliment any evening wear. Also at the show, Liz will have on hand her one-of-a-kind mermaid pins, sterling silver and sunstone pendants and much more.

Other artists participating in the 16th Annual Montclair Fine Arts and Crafts Fall Fest include Christopher Roscoe of Castro Valley with his glass art creations that include bowls, vases and more; Fortune Sitole of Emeryville, California whose paintings pay homage to the day-to-day life in black South African townships; and clay artist Mark Untener of Oakland  showing his elegant collection of functional and decorative ceramics.
